I served on the Coast Guard sub chaser Cyane in the Aleutians during WWII for a couple years, convoying and chasing sub contacts. I was a Quarter master, and worked signal lights at sea. Now 84, I would like to hear from any of my ship mates. Was aboard with skipper cook and Impson in the 1943's. This was very rough duty, but I can say it made a man out of me. Would enjoy hearing from the Cyane ships gang.

Great site. I was stationed on Attu, March 1999 - April 2000. It was a long year. The quietest place I have ever been. Alot of great moments. The best of all was the opportunity to talk to the veterans of the Battle of Attu. Not many know the great history of this Island. Another was the removal of the crashed P-38 which has now been restored and is at Elmendorf AFB. Thanks for a great website. My year on Attu was one of the most formative of my young adulthood.

Saw your beautiful island on Google Maps and found your site also. Thanks for the interesting information and history. Before today, I did not know that a battle had been fought on US territory in WWII. Thanks again, best wishes.

Attu sounds like a beautiful place. I hope someday I would be able to visit this remote destination. It seems to have a lot of history.
