My father, Kenneth C. Smith, from Ladysmith, WI was the Adjutant of the Headquarters Company. He was killed late in the day on 30MAY43. Does anybody in the this group remember him?

My father, Jewell Gilliam, landed on Attu May 11,1943. He was a member of the 7th infantry under General Brown. If anyone remembers having served in his unit, please contact me! Daddy died in 2008 without ever talking about the battle. I have a grandson now and would like all the details possible to put in a book for him.

I was a radioman aboard the USCGC Clover WAGL-292 in 1962-3. I believe we made three trips to Attu. The most important one was to deliver a snow-go vehicle that took up most of our bouy deck and a jeep and miscl materials for the base. We fished for Dolly-varden trout, The CG's showed us how to spear 'em. Attu was a fastinating place to hike & take pictures. Another time we picked up "Sea Otter Jones" moved him to another island. Regards to all who lived on that isolated, wind-worn rock.

I was a young airman going to my first overseas assignment to a radar site at Sado Shima Island, Japan, in 09/1958. We flew on a prop plane from Travis AFB to, I think, Anchorage, then to Shemya. I wasn't sure if we also landed at Attu until George Smith exchanged emails with me. I don't think we did.As I look at the maps, Shemya is smaller than Attu, but it's runways are longer. They are similar and I imagine the duty there was almost the same except facilities were larger at Shemya?

I was just watching the History Channel on TV about the battle of Attu. I found it very interesting. I would like to see how it is now.

Served as an ET on Attu in the early/mid eighties was there when the Japanese put a plack down for one the japanese officers (they came by ship)they gave us all a tea cup set. Was not looking forward to going there but once I arrived I was so intrigued by the history, exploring, the beautiful country side and fishing a year went by before I new it. There are a few good books on the battle for the aleutians, one is the "Capture of Attu" written by Cpl. Dashiel Hammet(yes the writer).

Was XPO at LORSTA Attu from 2001-2002. Had winds that year that hit 131 and I STILL had a good experience. We had the WWII vets come out and place the memorial plaque at the station. I'd love to go back, but alas, LORAN is no more

My father Sgt John F Dodds served with the 50th Engineers Company A in the Battle Of Attu. We just attended their 60th reunion in Minnesota. If you have any information that might be of interest please contact me. He passed away several years ago and would not discuss the war other than with his buddies at the reunions.
