| We were lucky
enough to have some really good artists in the
group, one of whom printed all of the names.
When the original design was put together, a picture
was taken and then an enlargement was made. It
was really big and it was posted on the bulletin
board in the photolab. 8 x 10 copies
were made for each of the photographers there at the
time. The purpose was to document the bombing
missions over Japan in which photographers
participated. You will note that this is
stated at the bottom of the document.
Also, the row of carrots, by themselves, represent
missions attempted but not completed. I don't
mean shot down or anything like that, maybe weather
problems or other adverse situations that prevented
completion. The row of carrots with Japanese
flags represents photo missions completed. The
big copy on the bulletin board was maintained,
unfortunately the individual ones weren't
updated. They just reflect the count at the
time the poster was made. When I removed my
copy from the frame for scanning, I found that I had
30 of the photographers named on the front sign the
back. Didn't remember that. (George Villasenor)
