My Dad was stationed on Adak during WWII and I have a scrapbook of black and white pictures that he kept.
What kind of pictures were you interested in?  I'll be more than happy to scan some off and send them to you.

Was he there between 9/43 and 7/45 -

I would be curious if he has crew pictures or shots where I may be able to identify my grandfather who was a Pfc. photographer - are any of the pics titled?

Thanks - Alex

Hi!
Judging from some of the pictures, I don't believe that they were taken by a professional photographer.  Most appear to be snapshot quality.
I apparently have not kept everything in one place and I can't for the life of me find his military papers indicating the exact dates he was on Adak, but I know it was 1944-45
He taught Chemical Warfare and played in the band there (drums).  Don't know if this is of any help.

Sorry, I had thought I had attached your message to my reply...apparently, I hadn't.
What was your grandfathers name?  Some of the photos have the names on the back.  I'll be more than happy to look for him.
I can scan some of the pictures and I hope I can figure out how to post them here.  If I can't get it to work, I'd be more than happy to email them to you.

By all means...you can send JPG formatted photos to me and I'll post them on our Adak site...with good verbage and/or descriptions, I can make a "scrapbook" page out of them!

B&W photos at around 60% or so quality settings, size under 100kB, email a few at a time, and that should work!

Please don't "edit" them, I can do that here to suit.

Thanks!

At this point, I'm 99% sure that my dad took most of the pictures.  I have all of the letters that Mom and Dad sent back and forth when he was in the military-just a few years- and there are some letters indicating that he was requesting mom send him a camera when he was on Adak.

I'll start scanning later on this evening and see what you think.  I feel reasonably sure that they are unique, but not having seen any other Adak pics....they may not be.

The majority are small photos like 3" x 2", so do you want them individually or several to a page?  A lot of them have captions on the back as to who the people are, etc.

Patti,

Maybe for the sake of good housekeeping, you could scan the front and back (as two images) of each individual photo, and send the pair(s) together? That would work just great. I don’t have a lot of photos of Adak, so these would be MUCH appreciated! I would want to build a scrapbook page as I have for other “collections” of photos on our other sites…Shemya, Attu, etc. Give those a look if you would, and we can ultimately end up with a real nice presentation! A short bio of your dad, maybe a recent photo as best you can, etc. would be good for openers!

Thanks so much!

My Dad was a photographer onboard the bombers for the bombing missions. We have some photos of some crews, some of the lab people, etc.
Dad was there from  Oct. 42 to around Sept. 43

Would really like to see your photos, and post them on our web site. Can you scan and send JPG files?
