It's seems I've heard a rumor about  this around 7 years ago, but at the time, I could not find any information about  it over the net.

Can you provide a link to this story?

Here are just a few links that I recall, featured this article. "Giving away the Aleutian Islands to the Russians".  I think it's only (3) three of the Islands that are in dispute between the Russians and Americans.

One of the many news article synopsis I reviewed inclusive of this subject made this matter out to be a, "Contractual Dispute" or a Verbage Problem within the text of the original documents when the U.S.A. orignally purchased the land from the Russians, fair and square.

Anyways, at that time,....I think 1897, don't quote me,..when this land deal was executed.  I don't think Al Gore was there hand out No Par value Stock Certificates to Russians so they could come back to Washington Treasure Hunting.

Maybe the USA can get,....Carbon Offset Certificates from the new Owners, when Al Gore's ECO compliance/ PC Police come knocking to make sure the Aluetians aren't using they're Furnaces and Stoves, or allowing they're live stock to fart methane.   It will be the Russians polluting the islands?

We can only hope the American's will be fair and honest about this misunderstanding the Russians had at that time and give back what they bought fair and square from Russia.

I mean,....why couldn't America had done business more reasonably with Russia,..like go to war over the deal and kill a few thousand Russian Soldiers?  Then,...maybe,....there would be no misunderstanding.

I too, would like to know more about this subject if anyone has better intellegence info .  Although I'm down here in Mexico, it's still a on-going news topic in these regions as we (here) think of that area, the Aleutians, as uncomfortably close to the Communist.

It seems this news topic comes out again & again, at a time when the American Public is looking to alternative solutions to the high costs of imported oil.  The pain at the Pump.

We/They feel that something can be done as exploring the north slopes and the Aleutians for domestic Crude Oil.

And so the story & rumors go.....The America Politicians in Washington may be giving an United States Oil Rich region back to the Russian's over a idiotic spelling type-o.

Yes, it can get dumber than this,  but what would you expect in a Country that prides itself on the individual's conquests and aspirations to seek his selfish narrow minded political wealth without consequences to national security.

WASHINGTON – Behind the backs of the American people, the State Department has been working for more than a quarter of a century to give the Russians U.S. territory that could make the nation more energy-independent. Furthermore, it could someday make the difference between life and death if we are ever attacked by North Korea or China.

“Americans have to pay $1.50 to $2.00 when [that price] ought to be down to about a dollar,” a gallon at the gas pump, State Department Watch’s Carl Olson told NewsMax.com.

Moreover, he says, “there’s a lot of fish involved,” and the Russians want even more of that than the U.S. has already agreed to hand them. At issue are eight islands in the waters between the U.S. and Russia. Wrangell, Herald, Bennett Jeannette, and Henrietta are in the Arctic Ocean. Copper Island, Sea Lion Rock and Sea Otter Rock are in the Bering Sea.
