I was stationed at Shemya AFS from July 1966-June 1967.I remember Boozer II quite well-he used to sleep at the doorway to the Composite Building where I was housed. I can remember an airman with a well-groomed handlebar mustache who worked in the Post Office, but don't remember names. I worked in the Air Police Section under the direction of Lt. Green and MSgt Turner. Tim Wesbecher, if you should read this article please respond. I think we use to ride patrol together chasing seagulls

I was Air Force and stationed at Shemya AB from March 1971 thru April 1972. Lived in the C (Composite) Building or Bldg 600. Worked for the communications squadron, and with John Hassle ran the photo hobby shop.

My crew and I visited Shemya on the 7th of July 2008. We must be among the few people ever to visit Shemya and never see the place for we landed in thick fog, and we departed in thick fog! If the Island is as nice as the airbase people were to us I want to go back someday.

I was in the USAF as a SSgt stationed on Shemya 'the Rock' with the 2064 CS, Sep 79-80 as an ATC radar repairman. At times it seems as though I was there yesterday with 'the BITCH' launching, white outs, hall parties,... It was truly an isolated remote tour.

While stationed aboard the USS Sam Houston (SSN609), we stopped at Adak Island, a common stop. I had a return MAC flight to Pearl Harbor via Shemya AFB, then to Anchorage, Washington State, California, then finally to Hawaii. My stay was brief, but looking out the window, I could see just a tiny swatch of island that was Sheyma. Over 20 years later in Texas, I met a co-worker who served in the AF, who spent a year there before me. Small world.

I served on Shemya as a Control Tower Operator from 6/26/50 till 3/11/51.
We had one hell of a lot of air traffic thru there getting troops to Tokyo to go to the Korean War. My hat is off to all who fought in Korea.

I was on Shemya from Sept. '63 to Sept. '64
I was with the 6984th. I played drums with a country & western band at the NCO club on Friday & Saturday nights
Remember well the day Pres. Kennedy was shot and the Good Friday earth quake in Anchorage. Would not want to spend another year there, but if I had to, I'd want to spend it with the same people I was with the first time. This site brought back a lot of memories, really glad I found it. Good luck to all.
