What a place! I was stationed there as an EO3/EO2 in 83 and an E01 in 89. I sure miss it! As others have said, you just can't tell people about what it was like to live there. It may have been overcast, windy and raining but it was still fun. We need a reunion of all those who were stationed there or lived there. It would be fun to fly back out there and spend a couple of days driving around.

Stationed from 1977-1979. Was in AIMD and closed it down and went to OMD. Was in charge of it until I transferred to NAS Meridian. Also, was night manager of the Bayview Club. Wife, Ellie, worked in telephone office and was a bus monitor for awhile. Really enjoyed our tour. Requested to go back but was denied so retired in 1981. |

Was stationed at Adak 1977/78 aboard USCG Cutter Ironwood, which was homeported there. Lots of good memories. Last visited there in 1990, just before I retired from the USCG.

I was stationed on Adak 1964-1965, dont know the exact dates just that I arrived two weeks after the earthquake of 64. I was a Builder Constructionman E4. I worked in the kitchen at first then on the paint crew. My friend John Pigeon and I hiked across the tundra grass to the west coast where we saw a rotting whale carcaus. We also climbed Mt Moffit. From Adak I went to Coronado, CA, in pontoon assembly. I was glad to get off the rock.

I was raised on Adak, from age 5 - 18, attended school K-12, from 1968 - 1981. had a great childhood! I worked at the horse stables until the horses were shipped off. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers my family. Dad was Levon "Bill" Sims, who worked at Public Works. Mom is Helen Sims. Siblings on The Rock were Julie, Greg, Alan, Robin, Laurie, and Marita.

I was on Adak from 1968-1977 (graduated from Adak High in 1975). Yes, we were "lifers!" Anyone remember the Sims family, or at least my dad, Levon "Bill" Sims and my mom, Helen Sims? We were Civil Service.
