Now days, about the only time Adak is mentioned in the news is when an earthquake hits the island or near the island. It happened again 12/19/07 about 125 miles west of Adak. A great place with many 1963-64 Marine Barracks and island memories.

I was at Navsta 1971 as CE3 Seabee and played in a band on base called "Avalanche" If anyone remembers, drop a note (we were the only band)

My first Navy duty station from Jun 1973 to May 1974 as a Crash Crew manning the turret of MB-1 or MB-5 Oskosh. How can I forget the "Birthplace of the Wind" and the morning song " Leaving on a jet plane"

Anyone who served in late 1952 - 1953 at the Adak base, I would like to hear from. I loved my tour there and had always dreamed of returning one day but health doesn't permit it so I will have to settle for emails and pictures if anyone has them available
Thanks

I was at adak some time in 1943 for a warrant officer exam and allthough I was told that I had passed the exam, it was explained to me that the army didn't want the rating to be taken from that theatre, I was never happy about that as the army told me to try again when I got back to the states.
OH yeah screwed again by the army.

Was with the ASWOC (Patwingspac Det Adak) from Sept. 1987 - Aug. 1989. Loved it! We lived in the then "new" housing. Really miss all the great people we got to know. Sure would love to hear from anyone who remembers. Now a GS with the Navy at GL. douglas.sennello@med.navy.mil
