Tree Viewing in Colorado

There is an annual Fall ritual in Colorado that sees many of us going to the mountains to find Colorado gold. In this case, the gold that glitters is in the form of Aspen tree leaves. It is that time of year when variations in temperature, moisture, and light all collaborate to produce chemical changes to the Quaking Aspen tree leaves. These leaves, normally green, are changed into leaves having a bright "golden" color.

Here's a few pictures from our trip during the month of September, 2001. We traveled along Highway 103, a nicely paved road that runs from Evergreen Parkway (Highway 74), up to and through Echo Lake (located near Mt. Evans), and exits near Idaho Springs back onto I-70.
