26 Feb 1999
- The menu structure has been modified by using
Java Applets from FrontPage 98.
- Added a new search feature on the
Search Page, ProFusion. Great. Give it a try!
- Added to the Aleutians pages. It grows and
grows!
13 Feb 1999
- We've moved our web sites from a personal
account to a commercial account. This provides more positive access and
faster downloads.
3 Jan 1999
- I've added a Meta Search capability to the Homepage and Search page,
changed the homepage menu structure to enable the homepage to load
faster, and neat'nized a few of the other pages.
- Changed the format of the Shemya Web Site to include the Aleutians
in general, with new sites that include Attu and Amchitka.
- Nadine's Pancho's Ranch is up...Nadine's first entry into the web
arena. See if you can figure out how to get there from Smitty's Place
homepage....
19 July 1998
- Added several new links to the "Links"
page, along with "rapid return" capabilities that will get you back to
the Link's Page Index buttons. Just click on the red arrows along the
right margin to return to the Links Index Buttons.
- Added a nifty Colorado Cam Page, "Colorado Cam Links by Retha." It's
available from either the Colorado
Cams Page or the Miscellaneous Cam Page Menu.
- Added "The Shemya Mailbag" to the
Shemya page. It's a collection of stories about and by the folks
that spent WWII in the Aleutian Islands. Gotta have the Adobe Acrobat
Reader for this one!
30 June 1998
- Added Search capabilities from the homepage's main frame. Just
scroll to the bottom of the page and you will find a readily available
text entry box and a button to click on that will bring you into
PointGuide's search site. PointGuide will provide you with information
it finds, along with links to 16 other search engines to which it passes
your search criteria automatically should you select one of them. You
can also select searches from categories such as Websites, Domains,
Business, Email, Area, Software, Newsgroup & Mailing Lists, and Health.
I've also added this option to the Search Page, available from the
homepage menu.
18 May 1998
- Added a link to the "Underground Weather" site to the Index.html
page, as well as to the Bear Creek
Cam Pages. This is supposed to bring up the local Denver weather,
with an image to click on to get a more in-depth report from their site.
25 April 1998
- Added "Ryans Cam Site" to the "Cam
Collection" page. He's started up a new collection of Cams from
around the globe. I added Bill Adkins' Image page to the Arts &
Crafts section on the "Links"
page. This Web Site is dedicated to images of scented geraniums, Nevada
Ghost Towns, old cars, rabbits, snowmobiles, and National Parks and
Monuments.
- Was elected a Ryan's Webcam Utopia Webcam Site of the Week.
4 April 1998
- I finally got an interface figured out, as well as some commercial
software, that would allow me to use an old beater Sony Camcorder, whose
transport mechanism was garbage from the first year I bought it, to fill
a useful function. A few weeks ago, I established a "Semi-Live" cam
site, with views towards the South-side of Bear Creek Park in Lakewood,
Colorado. I use the old Sony to provide a live video view, updated
periodically, via my web site. So, now, when you log in, you'll see a
"thumbnail" snapshot (320x240 pixels) on the index page, that, if you
click on it, will lead you to the full-blown 640x480 view on a
dedicated page. I'll try to vary
the view as much as possible. By the way, we're also now featured in
Leonard's CAM WORLD page under "Colorado, Lakewood!" So, while
you're enjoying (hopefully) my page, don't forget to check out
Leonard's CAM WORLD for additional places to view.
21 February 1998
- Added ICQ (http://www.icq.com) to the site. Click on the ICQ Hover
Button or select it from the menu, and you can pop up annoying screens
with your messages on my monitor if I'm on-line. My ICQ address is
8440013. This application is a take-off of IRC Chat, with expanded
capabilities. For those coming off of an on-line service such as AOL,
you will find this to be a tool equal to that of the "Buddy" list, if
not better!
16 February 1998
- Got some bugs with your hardware or software? Check out the BugNet.
Available from the "Links" page found in my main menu frame.
15 February 1998
- Cumulatively added several new features, including a new "doorway"
into the site via my "index.html" page. I've keep all the things off
this page that would tend to crash some browsers, with the idea that
visitors might want to at least get to the site without crashing, then
at their option download the latest free browsers and plug-ins via icons
on the page. I've also added Java Hover Button Applets to selected menu
buttons.
- Added "Guestbook" capabilities for visitors to leave messages or to
just simply view messages from other folks who've visited the site.
- Updated the Shemya site with more pictures and a Coordinates Map to
help locate where each of the pictures were taken. Rick Hughes supplied
the map. My thanks to Rick.
31 December 1997
- Added "Crescendo" to my main menu page to help solve the problem of
incompatibility between Netscape and IE when it comes to coding MIDI
music on a web page. Crescendo is a premium plug-in (available for free)
available in either Netscape or IE versions. By downloading this plug-in
you (and your sound card) can enjoy some fine MIDI music not only from
my site, but thousands of others that utilize the Crescendo interface.
- Installed some JavaScript written by David McCoy (mccoy@midwest.net)
that randomly serves MIDI tunes when you log in to my homepage. Odds are
you'll get a different tune each time, but you may on occasion get the
same one twice in a row. Just hope it's one you'll enjoy!
28 November 1997
- Severely enhanced my Shemya website. Received and uploaded pictures
from several folks of their visit to the "Rock," and have added new
links to various Shemya sites.
- Removed the "search" related menu items from my main page and
created a new "Search Page" that has them all located together for
easier choices. The "Search Page" is available at the top of my Main
Menu.
14 October 1997
- Ok, we've been a little busy here and haven't kept up with what's
new, so here's a catch up! You've probably visited the "Webopedia,"
located on my menu page, but have since added a "Shemya" page as well
with pictures and anecdotes relating to the fine vacation spot located
near the end of the Aleutian chain. Also, have added a link to "Four
11," if you're trying to locate someone, try this one out for size!
20 September 1997
- Added sound support for Microsoft Internet Explorer Browsers. Added
new stats page. Click on purple square with IP on it at bottom of menu.
14 September 1997
- A nice letter of appreciation for our support accompanied with a
very nice illustration of the Cassini effort was received from Mr. Earle
Huckings, Deputy Associate Administrator for Space Science (in charge of
the Cassini mission). See the link on my Links page to the Cassini
Project.

Graphics, and Dataspot.

faster loading, as well as having reorgaized the menu by putting the
"what's new" at the top.
- Added a "Shemya, Alaska" page, with pictures (thumbnails) of the
Island. This was precipitated by having found several Shemya pages on
the web, folks wanting pictures, etc., so I loaded 'em up.
- Added a few more links to the Links page. Checkout the Anomalous
Images...
16 August 1997
- Again on the Links page, added some links to those interested in
colleges and careers.

some Jeffco Schools links.
- Added another photo of Pancho the Horse, an "after" picture.
25 July 1997
- Closed down my CompuServe and Netcom websites, leaving only RMI's
site.
- Added another Menu item, "Newspage Direct". Tailor your own
newsfeeds. Free service (basic) to charges +, depending upon level of
service you select. First, select just Newspage Direct from my menu,
then once logged in set up your own profile, get your password and login
ID, then from that point on just return to "Newspage Direct Yourpages"
on my menu where you will be prompted for your login ID info, then you
will be fed the information you've selected.
18 July 1997
- Moved web site "Smitty's Place" from Netcom to a local IP, Rocky
Mountain Internet. The connections were starting to get pretty bad
again, have better luck with a local IP. New web site URL is: http://www.rmi.net/~hls
New e-mail address is: hls@rmi.net
- Added a second "download" page, "download#2" to the menu. This page
gives a textual description of the software as well as links to the
sites that serve them.
- Changed "homepage.htm" scenario to "homepage.html" for benefit of
RMI's servers. Works OK, requires less typing due to fewer characters in
URL!
4 July 1997
- Added new cam site links (Schaffer's Crossing, etc.)
- Added links to Links page, including fastWEB, a college
scholarship/funding mechanism (under EDUCATION), and a link to a MARS
PATHFINDER site.
- Added new cam site links (Schaffer's Crossing, etc.)

information. They have Photobubble graphics of Denver area locations as
well. Requires download of the browser plug-in (current is Red Rocks).
- Added more links to the "Links" page, including a well-done site by
Wal-Mart. Great for shopping on-line! Also added computer
hardware/software links.
23 May 1997
- Found a dead link to the NASA cam sites in Florida. Found a new link
to NASA's cam and audio sites and added it to the Cam Sites US page.
Note: You can listen to live audio to and from the shuttle missions by
selecting Audio from their menu. To listen to the audio requires that
you have installed a RealAudio plug-in for Netscape or IE.
9 May 1997
- Repaired some of the cam links on the Colorado and US Cam pages.
Added new cam links...North Dakota Flood Cams, the KOAA 5/30 cams, and
the New Orleans Bourbon Street cam.
5 Apr 1997

otherwise have a home here. See "Links Page" to visit these interesting
(at least to me!) sites.
29 Mar 1997
- Found an interesting site, no, a virtual farm, of links to
interesting and helpful places. Check this one out by clicking on "Lots'a
Links" located on my homepage contents frame. Added link to U.S. House
of Representatives, and to the USPS Zip + 4 Finder. Surprising what you
find here!
19 Mar 1997
- Received a response from Dan Schaefer, 6th District, Colorado
Congress person re the flap over the phone company's attempts at
charging our ISPs (and ultimately us users) an extra connect-time fee
for using their wires. Also attached was a FAQ regarding what is going
on. I scanned that, corrected it, and formatted it as web page
content...then uploaded it. Check it out by clicking on "PhoneCo Vs
Internet" on my homepage menu. Grab and hold on to your wallets!
8 Mar 1997
- I repaired my web pages to work on a UNIX system with a UNIX server,
with an FTP process in place to upload/download the web site files, with
syntax and file calls corrected for case. Uploaded all frame/table-based
files to NETCOM's web server as a mirror of my CompuServe web site.
There are no options here for non frame/table based browsers on my
NETCOM site due to the restrictions imposed on hard drive total file
size (NETCOM gives us only 1 MB to play with). However, the files
located on NETCOM's server may load a little quicker.
1 Mar 1997
- I've added some margin depth to the top and bottom frame margins to
permit the viewing of the hole page via scrolling. Some web pages
couldn't be pulled up far enough to completely read all the text. Added
some more candidates for the Darwin's awards.
2 Feb 1997
- Added Pancho the horse to the main menu, along with some pictures of
him we've just scanned in. Added links to "News, Wx, Sports -> Colorado"
page that will take you to "Arts to Zoo Colorado," a neat page with
links to things cultural around town (thanks to Dave Lubar), and to "Ticketmaster
On-Line," a great way to buy tickets on-line to your favorite events as
opposed to standing in line at a local sports store. These links are
also available on the "Media" page. Nadine found a great site to visit
where you've got direct access to your favorite politician or media
outlet to vent your frustrations. It's called "Mr. Smith e-mails
Washington, Media." It's available from the main page table of contents.
I've tried also to add the dates and times to the bottoms of each page
to show when they've been updated.
24 Jan 1997
- Built a single page to hold all of KCNC Channel 4's Cam Site
pictures, following the lead of Channel 9's offering of "all" pictures.
Makes it handy to see them all at once. Takes a few to download, but not
too bad. Available through the Cam Site's "Colorado" page.
14 Jan 1997
- Added "No Frames" option to home contents page; capture No Frames
for Frames handicapped browsers, and built parallel pages with no tables
or frames.

- Built a separate Problems Page, available from the homepage contents
frame.

I suspect that this page will always be under construction! If you have
any ideas that you would like to see implemented at Smitty's Place, drop
us a line via e-mail. Thanks! |
