Theremin (Oscillator-controlled electrophone)
The "Theremin" is an oscillator-controlled electrophone, made in New York, New York, USA, in 1929 out of wood, metal, and glass by the Radio-Victgor Corporation of America. It was given by its inventor, Leon Theremin, to Clara Rockmore who played it in her landmark performance of Bloch's Schelomo with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1937.
Clara Rockmore (1911-1998) holds a special place in music history as the leading performer on the theremin.
