John Denver (Henry John Deutschendorf)

Singer-songwriter John Denver (Henry John Deutschendorf) (1943-1997) had a warm and welcoming style popular among audiences around the world.

A gifted and entgertaining performer, Denver had many hit singles in the 1970s, including "Leaving on a Jet Plane," "Take Me Home, Country Roads," "Sunshine on My Shoulders," and "Rocky Mountain High." He earned international fame with heartfelt lyrics and folk-inspired music often featuring environmental grandeur.

Recognized as a dedicated humanitarian and environmentalist, Denver formed several important foundations. He also became a gentle spokesman for peace at home and abroad. Denver's musical message appealed to many, including those in China and the former USSR. In 1986 he was the first American artist to perform in the USSR since the Cold War, and in 1992 he was the first Western artist to complete a multicity tour of China.
