I was stationed the Bering Sea side of Attu. I was in the 713th signal S.A.W. Co., a radar outfit [located at Alexai Point, Attu]. Our objective was to pick up enemy ships and aircraft. We could pick up aircraft located 200 miles out, and ships a distance of no more than about 25 miles. There were 45 of us on the Outpost. We didn't see a movie for over a year! The water was so rough we didn't get mail for a month at a time. I don't recall the exact date these pictures were taken, but it was sometime between May of 1943 and the middle of Summer, 1944. The landing barge you see on the picture was bringing in supplies. The tractors had to keep pulling the barge up on account of the water being rough.
