JAPANESE COMMANDER Approximately 350 yds. from this point Colonel Yasugo YAMASAKI, Commander of the Japanese Force on ATTU, was killed, sword in hand, lead- ing the final fanatic 'all out' attack. The enemy leader, in his last order to his troops said, in part:..."(We) are successively plan= ning an annihilation of the enemy troops.... I, in the advance for the attack, will advance in the center rear of the front line." Following this order in full Colonel YAMASAK marched to his death at this point.
