These pages contain photos from "The Capture of Attu…an Infantry Journal,” a collection of photos and

memorabilia submitted by folks who were stationed on Attu as well as from relatives of folks who were stationed

on Attu during WWII, and other photos and materials now available in the public domain. My thanks go to the

many individuals who have contributed content to these pages over the last 20 years, including Rene Thibault,

George Villasenor, Bob Watson and all the rest of the folks, with a special thanks to the unknown photographers of

WWII who made the remaining pictures available for the world to see.

A Japanese A6M2N "Rufe" on Attu during WWII

This amphibious Japanese Mitsubishi A6M2N “Rufe” had been strafed by Army Air Corp planes as it was floating in Holtz Bay’s west arm several days before American troops landed there. The Japanese pulled the damaged aircraft ashore and turned it over on its back. Surveying the wreckage are U. S. troops from the Holtz Bay Landing Party.
